Evaluation of a brain lesion
Brain tumours and tumour-like lesions may present with seizures, headache, weakness, speech changes, imbalance or may be identified incidentally. MRI, other imaging and clinical review inform the differential diagnosis.
When surgery is considered
Goals may include obtaining tissue for diagnosis, relieving pressure, reducing tumour burden, preserving neurological function or treating hydrocephalus. The surgical plan depends on lesion location, surrounding vital structures and expected benefits versus risks.
After surgery
Histopathology and molecular testing, where relevant, guide further multidisciplinary decisions including observation, radiotherapy or systemic treatment. Follow-up imaging is important.
